It is amazing what a little bit of sand, freezing temperatures and snow can do to a place you can walk up to durring the summer and fall.

Everything is somewhat treacherous, slippery, and more interesting to look at. I also tend to cause myself some sort of random injury every morning slipping on the ice, or falling between the cracks, or simply getting vertigo from my fear of heights while i climb on the large rock walls.

I'm not sure if its even legal to be out there, but its me, the sun and a few dog walkers each morning. I'm often perilously close to the edge of the water and ice, but they often chat amongst themselves about it. I think we have an unnatural relationship that i take solace in knowing they await my eventual fall so they can say they witnessed me up there as it scrolls across the news.

oh well i'm as careful as i can be, after all its not my camera to lose, and i still have to many photos to take to die just yet.

in other news I'm auctioning two polaroid photographs of the world absolutely amazing Apnea of apneatic.com. I'd rather keep them but sometimes you gotta sell a polaroid to buy a polaroid and all of that jazz. Sometimes i feel like my pictures are my offspring so i horde them and protect them. I can't help it. Incredibly long and pretty boring drive. I spent about 8 hours sleeping in the back of my car in ohio on the journey, which was harder than i thought it would be.

So the workshop went really really well, and over all I think that the participants got a lot out of it and produced some cool images. You can check them out below.

http://www.elenajasic.com/blog/?p=888

After the workshop I drove up to Addison, Ny...Haven't heard of it? Not really surprising, its the land from which my father hails.
That ought to give you a pretty good feel for the ruralness that i was to encounter. Went up there for hunting, saw absolutely no deer until i was pulling away from the barn in my car. God or the earth or whoever has a damning sense of humor that i do not particularly enjoy when sitting in the cold for hours on end and hoping for some food, fabric and bones. I want to carve my own utensils at some point in time.

But the holiday went by fast and was definitely enjoyed. I always remember how much I love Central, Pa when I go back. It will most certainly be home no matter how far I wonder.

I did a couple shoots while i was back and even managed to dismount the fox from his wooden/foam mount for a couple pictures. Hope you enjoy

Driving At Night with Wet Eyes

So I finally went out last night with the intention of trying to get something interesting of the lake with the city in the background. Amy and I had napped from about 7:30-11:30 so i was wide awake at 3 when we decided to go for a walk.

My wireless shutter release was broken, but fortunately the ambient lighting from the streets provided some interesting harshness and textures in the concrete, and enough light that i didn't need to shoot for more than 30 seconds.

I love the lake, definitely what i will miss most when we leave here.

In other news, well there really isn't much other news. I'm still looking for a gallery to show my Landscapes and Erotica in, so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

Also had somebody suggest I do a landscapes workshop in Harrisburg, and I'm definitely considering it. I'm actually really good at teaching people how to get great landscapes regardless of what kind of equipment they are using, just ask Laura. Plus I think it would be pretty refreshing to teach a class outside of the studio for once.

Surprise Stop

So today was pretty awesome. I woke up to find out I was gonna make about 235 Euros for not all that much work. Then a few minutes later I got messages about having images published in Bizarre Magazine (one of the biggest fetish publications) and a paper in NYC not sure which one yet, but regardless images have been sent out.

Thus far i've spent most of the date rapidly editing files for publication. In one day I finished stuff for 5 websites and 2 print based medias...also got three orders in for a limited run I'm doing of Zui Suicide...you may know her from Paris Hiltons my New BFF season one on MTV, and another person signed up for the workshop on the 21st in NYC. With all that done i'm gonna relax and check out the sunset over the lake again, which as usual will probably be gorgeous.

Major Turn

so the trip is over...we sucked at updating...and now i'm living in chicago

but i still travel consistently, so there will be more updates coming as time goes by and probably more frequently.

Amy (of vaunt designs) and i just got back from a trip to detroit. Their jaws dropping to emit a hilariously cartoonish roar flem and food flying out as the below passed their enormous teeth.

well actually i am...it was hilarious right after i was far enough away from them to feel safe.

everything up until then was a little scary. I remember the rush to try and get there from seattle in one drive so that we could enjoy it and leave. See the sunset have a snowball fight, and be on our way out.

But we didn't make it one drive, well we did, but not in time. There was the crazy lady on the rode as we left the olympic peninsula whose response to me passing her was to beep, pass me, and then turn on her left turn signal and slow down.

Old people driving is always dangerous. there was the fairy ride to seattle that allowed us to stand on the front haul and sing i'm on a boat, and there was the farmers market, free food, and the race to get to mt rainier.

We found a bar, and the parking lot we were going to sleep in. A great combination when you've spent as many nights as we had trying to find one or the other. Bars were always in high supply but i safe place to park the neon and pass out for a couple hours had been a difficult task. Its hard to feel safe anywhere that your head is directly next to a thin window especially in the middle of nowhere.

The bar was so good i left my credit card there and couldn't pay the admission fee to the park, fortunately laura hadn't enjoyed it as much and still had hers.

The first bend where the fog dissipated and you could see the mountain was like a magic show. Driving precariously around corners to drop offs unseen and then a gust of wind and there it was.

The mountains only appeared for a couple seconds before they were swallowed up by the fog again, but we new we had to hike there, we had to get as close as possible, we didn't really get that far.

I think our hike that day was only 6 or 7 miles, but man was it worth it. Once we had gone to the hot springs and lounged a bit..

and spent a little time in Denver and Boulder, I think Cor was jones'n to leave civilization - so we went our separate ways, him to his uncles, me to the mountains with two of my best friends from school:

Had an amazing time catching up, hiking, hottubbing, and had the strangest grilling experience. Strange because for once I was the most experienced griller and therefore took some trial and error to get the grill goin' and also because eventually the sun went down, and we were left to grill in the pitchblack, and consumed our feast in the back of Vic's car. Which as I've found, is really how all food should be cooked and eaten:

Vic and I also went to a Rockies game at Coors Field.

Now I'm not generally a sports fan but met some really cool people and somehow got seriously into the game. Also, and I'm not proud, but purchased the most expensive Coorslight ever at $6.50. I know I know.. but it was Coors field! I felt like I had to. We then went out in Denver and had a glorious time wandering around and dancing with some super creepers, which I seem to attract wherever I go..

Oh and one last image - maybe Corey's favorite from Colorado

The first of many

Alright, so finally on the opposite side of the country, oh so far away from home, I write my first entry. Seeing as Cork has been trained in all the technical in&outs of photography, I'll be updating the snapshots I've taken. He's dubbed me, sunlip snapshot. "Snapshot" because I take snapshots on my dinky pink camera and "sunlip.." cork'll have to explain, something to do with chapstick and spf.
Now to share some highlights of the trip thus far. You may notice a food trend with the pictures to come. For me, and probably Corey too, this trip will be as much about the sights we see as the food we eat : )
Kansas City can be summed up in two pictures:
Before Gates BBQ

Don't be deceived - there is sooo much ham under those fries.
And a pitcher of root beer.

And after Gates BBQ

It was kind of like being drunk - the full effect did not hit us until we stood up. Then it took hours to recover. My first ribs experience - worth it- but rough going.

Also, there was a cat, and air conditioning, and a really comfortable couch - so I was in heaven

Then it was off to Kansas! I was determined to find something redeeming about Kansas and I think we were beyond successful. To start, and what a good start, the woman at the toll booth who came out to kneel by the car and chat about the down quilt she just picked up at a yard sale for $2.50. And then Wichita. Granted we only spent a couple of hours there, but I think we picked up an excellent vibe from the city. First, to put a picture to the seller of the best malts that guy ever had:

Then we went to a bar with Alysha and her boyfriend and tried Fat Tire, which was good at first, but eventually reminded me of steel reserve, which is never a good thing..

And then we toured the abandoned building Cor shot in

if you were wondering, yes, there are more where those tiny saws in the bottom left corner came from..

To finish off our time in Wichita, the first of many delicious gelato experiences, Cor with cocount and chocolate, me with raspberry and pistachio

and we're off to Colorado!

more to come later..

Colorado

Colorado...I was supposed to spend five days in Denver, but Denver was just...eh. We arrived in the tiny town of littleton where we were staying with Laura's college roommate Victoria. Staying with her was great. Having a bed was just as great.

First day went up to red rock canyon for some photos and hiking.
Spent that night in the actual city where i wandered around while they went to a club called Lodos, and eventually ended up a little jazz bar called El Chapultec, which turned out to be awesome. Next day drove 4 hours to Steamboat Springs to get the authentic colorado hot springs experience. It was warm relaxing and felt like heaven.

Drove back down to littleton really late that night and the next day we headed to boulder to see another college friend of Laura's. Boulder had great views from outside of the town, but the actual city had a really weird vibe...spent that night holed up editing photos and playing catch up.

From there I realized I definitely needed to get down and see my uncle who I had not seen in quite a few years. He lives in a little town called crestone, 11,000 feet up and another 4 hours from denver.

the drive out there was beautiful, though i may have sat on some fire ants while taking that photo.

Will further update on Crestone later tonight and finally make Laura update with her experiences and snapshots thus far...

Kansas City to Wichita.

Haven't updated since Kansas city and so much has happened.

first a shot from my shoot with LaLa

Spent the day after missouri in Wichita kansas with the adorable and extremely cool Alysha Nett, we shot a set for zivity in a massive semi-abandoned building in downtown. Really cool place really great city. Laura and I ate at a little restaurant called "The Tasty Shop" The special of the day was chicken fried chicken...which i still don't quite get, so i went with Braised Beef BBQ of course and it was delicious.

Then we tried "the best malt that guy ever had" i don't know that guy but he said it, and i believed him because i had no reason not too. it was a pretty damn good malt. went to a thrift store and picked up 3 polaroid cameras for 7 bucks.

Then the shoot which went amazingly

don't call it a hat its a shako...you'd know that if you were a marching band nerd like i was in highschool.

Wichita was awesome probably the only redeeming part of kansas

kansas city

august 19/20
arrived in kansas city, missouri morning on the 19th.
spent the day catching up on sleep and food, and the night shooting editing and writing til everyone else fell asleep.

In Ohio I finally gave in and tried cracker barrel for the first time; definitely not a fan. Though my love for eavesdropping did bring some interesting info about a local who had a stutter once and no longer does during a conversation had between a patron and waitress. Cambridge, Ohio is distinctly small town in that regard I suppose. Makes New Cumberland feel like a big city.

Illinois smelled like bad shits the morning after you drink to much whiskey, and I couldn't bring myself to shoot any landscapes on the way out here. Almost all of these states look Pennsylvania without a Philadelphia or Pittsburgh decidedly uninspiring.

Looking forward to Colorado, though I feel rushed here. Mary is a great host, photographer, and secretly an amazing model who I was hoping to be able to shoot this trip, but the days are going by faster than I imagined they could. I need some alone time in the mountains. Hope to photograph the stars, swim in a sulfur pond, and possibly see my Uncle Mark.

last week when i was out here I shot Poses...it was basically the mini road trip before the road trip, also rushed faster than i wanted it to be

tonight I shot Lala
http://www.modelmayhem.com/590001
i was feeling weird all day the results should be interesting. fortunately she's a good friend and put up with my shit all shoot and even let me get a shot for a super secret side project.

I rarely seem to know what i'm going to do before i set up the light, which is probably not the best way to do business, but it has nearly always worked for me artistically.

will make laura update tomorrow as she has been on top of snapshots and the like...she can go over her first experience with eating ribs at gates as well

hopefully will be able to find something i want to photograph tomorrow outside of my shoot with Alysha Nett in wichita

August

After months of planning we've finally picked the launch date. My lovely Ion will be hitting the road August 12th in the year of 2009 our lord. I'll be updating as often as I can from the road with photos and stories as well as forcing Laura to update as frequently as possible as well, who should have an interesting perspective having never met many of the people I have become acquainted with in the past two years.

Camera - Check
CD Playlists - Check
Map - Check
Garmin - Check
Taxidermied Fox - Check
